Vinegar Eels

Price range: £11.38 through £15.52

Turbatrix aceti

Care Sheet Included

The Vinegar eel (Turbatrix aceti, previously Anguilla aceti) is a species of nematode worm which is excellently suited to observation in the lab or classroom. At about 1mm long, the worms are just visible to the naked eye, but when observed under a  microscope (20x) the transparent bodies are clearly visible. It is possible to view their digestive system and egg production in females. Additionally, they are very active and constantly wiggling, at high enough concentrations they will move in synchrony.

Care

Vinegar eels, as their name suggests live in raw vinegar, feeding on the bacteria (known as the mother of vinegar). This makes their care very simple. Just add the culture to raw apple cider vinegar and keep at room temperature. It is important to keep the culture covered, but do not exclude air completely.

A care sheet is available on our website and provided with your order.

For Educational use only. Not for human consumption.

Please note: This item cannot be sent over a weekend for a Monday delivery.

(We have changed our jars; they are now 100% recyclable and slightly larger so there is more air in each jar, which will improve the condition in which the cultures arrive).
