Individual slide. Human cardiac muscle.
To teach the morphology of cardiac muscle. This type of muscle is only found in the heart and is involuntarily controlled. Like skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle fibres are striated; however, they contain only 1 nucleus per fibre. Cardiac muscle also contains intercalated discs, which allow adjacent muscle fibres to maintain an electrical connection. This is essential for heart contractions. Easily identify striated muscle fibres, visible nuclei, and intercalated discs. Stained with haematoxylin and eosin.
